Blackjack basic rules and history

Blackjack is a card game which goal is to reach as close as u can to 21 without busting. Blackjack also called Twenty-One and it’s the most popular casino banking game in the world.

Blackjack is first mentioned in the book “Don Quixote” from the 16th century. In the story there are two characters which use different methods in order to earn money playing the game. Later references to Blackjack are traced to Spain and France.

When Blackjack was first introduced in the U.S casinos, it didn’t gain much popularity. The owners of the casinos wanted to attract gamblers to try this game.

They said that if you get a black Jack – which is the ace of spades and a black prince- you’ll get 10:1 winning pot money. Although the bonus was soon canceled, the name stuck to the game.

Last few years black jack popularity has surged and it is very popular among gamblers world-wide. The combination of skills, luck and simple ruled make it a perfect gambling game.

Blackjack Rules

Blackjack is played when a dealer is facing the players who playing in this table. In the beginning of the round each player is placing his bet in the “Betting Box”. Afterwards, 2 facing-up cards are dealt to each player. The dealer, on the other hand, put one of his cards facing down. The most important rule that guide the dealer, and the other gamblers of course, is that the dealer must reach 17.

For example, if the dealer had an ace and a 4 he must take another card. If he has a 10 and a 8, he can’t take another card. A lot of blackjack tactics are based on this understanding.

Player’s Options in play

  • Hit- tells the dealer to give you another card.
  • Stand- Take no other cards and stay in the game.
  • Double down- the player can add the same amount of money like his original gamble stake, and to receive just one other card.
  • Split a pair-when receiving 2 cards of the same value (5 and 5, jack and queen etc), a player can, after multiplying his gamble by 2, play on each one of them as an “independent” game.
  • Surrender- the player can choose to forfeit the round before asking for another card and to receive half of the amount of chips he gambled on. *This option is not possible in all of the casinos.
